Sun Ho is a Singaporean pop music singer.  Her real name is Ho Yeow Sun.  We’ll discuss more about Sun Ho’s background and how she has impacted people through her music and community services.

Sun Ho studied at the Anglican High School and Victoria Junior College.  She was one of the co-founders of the City Harvest Church which has performed extensive community service.

She led City Harvest Church’s creative department from 1993 to 2003.  At that time she left to pursue her singing career.  Given her religious background, she faced criticisms that her manner of dress was deemed inappropriate.  There were also rumors that some church funds were used to promote her album sales.

She had further difficulties with her association with the church when she was questioned by the Singapore Police in 2010 when City Harvest Church came under investigation for alleged misuse of funds.

But Sun’s singing career did grow.  After a series of local successful concerts, she had the opportunity to develop her career further outside of the country by focusing on China, Taiwan and the US.

She released a series of five successful Mandarin pop albums from 2002 to 2007.  They all reached either double or triple platinum status.  Her album “Gain” was released in 2006 and it reached the #1 position on top 10 music charts.  Her song entitled Starting Point was used as the theme song for the Singapore TV series Turning Point which was based on real life inspirational stories.  Sun Ho was the hostess of this program.

Ho moved into English language releases of her songs and from 2003 to 2006, they became very popular dance club hits.  She was the first Asian artist to score successive number one hits in this manner.

Sun was the first Asian pop singer to be invited to the Hollywood Film Festival in 2003.  And the following year, she was the only Chinese singer to be invited to the 46th Annual Grammy Awards.  She was also an award presenter at the American Dancestar Music Awards in 2004.

Ho was invited to attend the 2007 MTV Europe Awards ceremony which made her the first Asian pop singer to achieve this honor.  And Sun was invited to attend the Grammy Awards ceremony in 2007 and 2010.

She has also been involved in many community programs and has generously donated her time and talents.  She worked as a counselor for troubled teens from 1996 to 2001 at the City Harvest Community Services Association.  Ho had gone through a difficult childhood so she was motivated to help others in similar situations.

And once she attained success as a pop singer, she gets involved in fundraising for different charitable organizations.  Her projects helped Tsunami victims and built schools and medical clinics in Indonesia and China.

Ho received the Outstanding Young Person of the World Award in 2003 for her humanitarian efforts and achievements in her career.  So from a personal and professional level Sun Ho has established herself as an impressive and important person on a worldwide basis.
